First Day of Spring

Shimmer and Shine came in from playing outside after school today with some tiny flowers in hand for me. The first of the season and such a sweet gift on the first day of spring. One of those moments when you feel God close at hand. Perfect blooms for one of my "mommy pots"... a favorite purchase from a little gift shop years ago. One of those items you spy at the register and think quickly, as they ring up what you really were there to pay for, should I throw these in too??? So glad I did... something I would have missed not having.

While they were outside enjoying the warm weather we have been blessed with of late, I was inside trying to tidy up a few rooms so that we can get our Easter decor out tomorrow. Moved a few things around and now we have the perfect spring centerpiece on our kitchen island. HAPPY SPRING!!!

Irish Eyes are Smiling

Another fab idea courtesy of Pinterest! This one from a blog called Our Best Bites. Saw this awhile back and knew it was just too cute not to do for my kids and their classmates. After the shower last week though I have been playing catch up at home and wasn't sure we would have time to pull this off. A quick after-school trip to Wal-mart last night and we found what we needed. I stayed up until 11:30pm to get them all done but come on, how cute are they??? So worth it, right! Kids love rainbows... kids love unexpected holiday treats... and, I love being the mom who helps make memories.

The Bridal Shower

Shimmer and I met my aunt at the restaurant hosting the shower yesterday about an hour and a half early to decorate before the guests started to arrive. I spent most of my time peeling a pre-cut set of three large poms my aunt had bought and then quickly hanging everything. No time to fuss about placement like I would normally. I think this was the first time I'd ever done decorating somewhere other than my own home where I have time to arrange and rearrange. A custom keepsake banner I made for my cousin was the focal point of the front window, and a special slideshow of memories I compiled and set to music was the emotional highlight of the shower. I burned dvds of the slideshow ahead of time for the moms, grandmas and the bride-to-be as special shower favors. Shimmer was put to work filling the favor boxes with mints and candy kisses, while my aunt attended to all the other "finishing-touch" details before the guests arrived. It was a lovely day and the bride-to-be went home with a carload of gifts and best wishes!

Pom Love

In my life, I have been blessed with the love of three special aunts. One of them will soon be watching her only daughter, my cousin, walk down the aisle this summer. When my aunt was married on a hot summer day a long time ago, I was fourteen years old and stood as her guest book attendant. Years passed, and when I was married, her daughter (as chance may have it), was also fourteen years old and stood as my guest book attendant. Funny how life moves in circles...

My aunt knows how much I love party details and so she enlisted my help with a bridal shower for my cousin this month. The wedding colors are orange and green, so I've spent my spare time this week making poms in those shades. With spring around the corner, it's been fun to see the trees I recently emptied of valentine's decor come to life with these pretty blooms. The night before the shower, I turned most of them into garlands and pom vines. I have hours of work into these things, but it's so worth it to help make a special day for my aunt and cousin more beautiful.
